16 and counting…..

intro As of this morning I’m down by 16lbs.  COOL!  But I’m still kinda sick.  I hope today is a better day.  Yesterday I started feeling better, but I hope I can actually exercise and get something done today.

Dr.’s visit went well.  She was more concerned about my numbers and meds than anything.  She thinks I’m doing great with weight loss.  I think the nurse was more impressed than the Dr., but she was more into how I’m doing otherwise.  She wants me to start a low dose of cholesterol medication once a day at night, but the pharmacy called and said there is a contradiction with one of the high blood pressure meds I take.  They called the doctor and she said to take it anyway.  I’m concerned though.  I don’t want the medications I’m taking to damage my liver or kidneys.  My poor liver is already working overtime learning to do sugar properly.  I guess since it is a low dose of Zocor, that it shouldn’t be too bad.  Still I’m concerned.  Bob said that hopefully in a couple months when I’m down in weight and my numbers are good that it may be a temporary thing.  God I hope so.

Bad Day / Good Day 15lbs

Well the good news is that I am down 15 lbs as of this morning!!!!!!!!  YAY  HAPPY DANCE!

Bad news is I’m sicker than a dog.  I can’t talk (maybe a good thing) and I’m running a low fever.  I started with that sore throat the other day, then yesterday it moved to be in my nose and with a very flem’y cough.

I am not one of those people who can ‘spit’ up junk in their throat.  Sorry, TMI, but I can’t do it.  I’m completely disgusted when I have to cough. I try NOT to.  The fever is making me feel even more like crap.  I can’t walk into bright light, because it bothers my eyes and I’m completely overheated.

I’m going to the doctor today anyway for my month check up.  I hope she’s impressed.  My goal in my head was to be down 15lbs by the next time I saw her, and I am!  Boy, that’s the first time that has happened.  I’m going to let her know that I’m sorry I balked at taking the new medication, and that between diet, exercise and the medication, it is really working for me this time !!!!!!!

Wonder if I’ll get meds for whatever it is that I have………

Sick Day…….

Well as of this morning I’m officially sick. smile_sad  I’ve had a sore throat for the past couple mornings with a nagging cough and this morning I could barely get out of bed at 9:30am.  I tried to get up at 6am, and did to take my pill, (trying to take a pill with a sore throat isn’t an easy thing)then I went back to bed.

Good thing today is that I dropped a little more weight.  I’m now down 13.5 lbs since I saw the doctor last month!  I go for my month check up tomorrow afternoon.

My blood pressure has dropped amazingly, I’m so happy about that!  The past couple times morning or evening has been around 112/68 with a resting heart rate of 70.  So the exercise is DEFINETLY helping.  Hope the doctor happy about my changes.  I’m sure she will be. Hopefully she can help me with my cold…………

Set backs ;(

Well, this past week has been some set backs.  But it is to be expected I guess.  My weight loss came to a screeching halt, but this morning started to drop again.  I’m down 11 1/4 lbs.  I guess that’s still good for a month.  I also tried to run again yesterday with April at Gring’s Mill, which is a great place to run and walk. Except they don’t allow doggies. smile_sad  And first my lower legs started to hurt, I got two ‘runs’ in and had to walk.  We had a really nice walk.  Then after I got home, my Achilles tendon must not be healed because it is KILLING me, to the point of having trouble just walking around.  UGH.  I’ll never make it to run the 5K.

Bob got my bike out yesterday and made it ready to ride.  I’m coming to the conclusion that all I really need to do is exercise.  Not that I HAVE to run to do it.  As long as I do something to raise my heart rate.  Maybe when I get down in weight more the running won’t be so hard on my lower legs.

Maybe I’ll get some tassels for the handle bars!

Biggest Burgers……….

Last night we split a 2lbs burger. They acutally make a 15lbs and 50lbs burger that you have to order ahead.  Needless to say it was too much burger for 2 people.  I’ll post pictures as soon as I can get them from phone to PC when we get home.

Achilles….

Well, the euphoria of Tuesday night’s run is over….smile_sad

We were going to run/walk last night at the hospital loop as soon as Bob got home.  Beautiful day, felt good.  I even had to get Bob moving to get down there.  But…………Poor Mina, I knew this was going to happen, but when we said ‘”Walkie”, she didn’t want to move and didn’t want to go.  She did make it to the front yard and as Bob was loading Belle, Mina was shaking like a leaf in the yard.  So I said to her “Do you want to go back in?”  And she raced to the front door.  This the dog who used to ‘whine’ to go for a walk and loves it, but I think her running days are over.  I guess she will only come on a true walk and not run.  Belle however, LOVES it, she trotted along up ahead and it is a good pace for her.

I on the other hand had a crappy time.  I felt good, I thought, but couldn’t make it past 4 intervals…….my lower right leg on the outside was killing me, and my Achilles tendon on the left was hurting.  This morning the right leg was fine, but my left Achilles is super sore like a bruise.  Just great.  Just as I thought things were moving too good and I opened my big mouth about not being in any pain yet.  Crap.smile_baringteeth  Hope I can move around today to get stuff done.

91 the Morning low…

I decided to try something I read about having higher blood sugar levels in the morning.  There is a thing called the ‘Dawn Phenomenon’.

“It happens around between 4:00 and 6:30 a.m. your body secretes cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrin. These hormones are involved in the “fight or flight response.” Their job is to give you the energy to get up and moving.

Besides giving you a burst of energy, these hormones raise blood sugar. You aren’t going to be able to make any kind of energetic response if you don’t have fuel, and after a long night’s sleep, the fuel your body turns to to get you going is the glucose stored in the liver.

So after these stress hormones are secreted, around 5:30 a.m., plasma glucose and, in a normal person, insulin start to rise.

Though the normal person gets a rise in insulin to help cells use the morning glucose, people with insulin resistance don’t, so instead of giving their cells a dose of morning energy, all they get is a rise in blood sugar.”

So last night I tried what someone had advised to counteract the dawn phenomenon.  I ate a protein ‘snack’ before bed.  I ate a small bowl of cottage cheese.  This morning my blood sugar was only 91  Yeah!  It seems that when you have a small snack in the evening your body has something to process during the night so when it comes to ‘that’ time, your liver doesn’t have to up your blood sugar because it’s too low.  So something I’m doing is right.  Running, eating right, chia, and medication.  My sudden weight loss has slowed down this week.  I’m hoping for another drop tomorrow morning

.

Yippee

Had running class tonight.  It was rainy and cold but worked to my advantage.  I like it like that. April and I did 10 intervals of 1 min run, 2 min walk. So it ended up 2.5 miles with a short walk on either end.

WE DID IT!!!! I didn’t think I could run for 1 min straight, but I did it tonight and did it 10X!  I actually feel energized tonight.  April stuck with me the whole time, and we worked the program.  Some of the women just took off running, and later petered out, but we stuck with the intervals and did them all.  I swear last night I thought there is NO way I’m going to go a whole min.  but it just kicked in tonight.  YIPPEEEEE!!  So that is my schedule for this week.

Next week is suppose to be in the 70’s so we’ll see how that goes..  YIKES

OH  and the best thing…….  I took my blood sugar test when I got home and it was only 101 !!!!   YEAH!!!!
